On August 29, New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin sent a letter to Vogue's Anna Wintour, curator Andrew Bolton, and Met director Max Hollein calling the decision "a serious mistake."

Galliano spent sixteen years trying to make up for what he did — supporters say that's what repentance looks like.

Rabbi Jacobs met Galliano personally and came away convinced. He called him "an incredible positive model of a guy who did the work to really earn back his position," adding: "He wasn't sugarcoating it. He wasn't mouthing something that he was prepped to share. I felt he was really honest and contrite."
