Macklemore said "Free Palestine" and played his protest song "Hind's Hall" over Gaza images while opening for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium on September 4, then repeated "Free Palestine" the next night. The Israeli-American Council publicly petitioned Ed Sheeran to remove him from the tour on September 6. That same day, Pink reposted an Instagram Story from the advocacy group StopAntisemitism, which said fans didn't buy tickets "to be ambushed by Macklemore's anti-Israel propaganda." Venues on the tour's remaining stops refused to host Macklemore, and the Loop Tour dropped him from its remaining dates around September 14. Swifties Against Genocide, an activist group, started a Change.org petition called "Remove Pink as a UNICEF Ambassador." It now has more than 175,000 signatures. UNICEF hasn't responded to it.

1. She Broke Neutrality (Swifties Against Genocide, Javier Bardem, Raed Jarrar)

A UNICEF ambassador is supposed to represent every child, and Pink picked a side.

The petition says Pink's post disqualifies her from the job. It argues her comments are "incompatible with the role of a UNICEF Ambassador — an individual expected to promote peace, understanding, and humanitarian values above personal biases."

You can't defend children's rights while ignoring Gaza. That's the case actor Javier Bardem made on Instagram on September 21, when he shared the petition and wrote: "She can not defend children's rights while not condemning the genocide in Gaza."

UNICEF's own words get turned against it here. Raed Jarrar of Democracy for the Arab World Now says Pink should step down because "UNICEF itself has called Gaza a graveyard for children," pointing to UNICEF's own description of the strip and its count of more than 300 children killed by Israeli strikes since October's ceasefire.

2. This Was About Antisemitism, Not Neutrality (Pink, StopAntisemitism)

Pink says she was calling out an ambush on Jewish fans, not taking a side in a war.

Macklemore made this personal for Jewish fans. That's Pink's read on it. She wrote that he "stood in front of a stadium full of music-loving families, with violent images from a war on the screens, dedicated a song to the movement of his choice, and then took the mic to tell all of the Jews in the stadium that it wasn't about them."

The moment scared her as a Jewish mother. Pink wrote that it "scared me, and it scared people I love, without being told our fear is just propaganda."

The post she shared made the same case first. StopAntisemitism's original Instagram Story called the set an "ambush" and said concertgoers were "owed apologies and refunds."

Standing up for Jewish people has cost her, Pink says. She said it's been "lonelier" than she expected: "I'm standing up for my own people, and I thought I knew how lonely that would be. It's lonelier than that."

3. The Real Story Is Artists Getting Punished for Palestine (Finneas, Aaron Rowe, MUNA, Gigi Hadid)

Some acts quit Sheeran's tour in solidarity. Others just spoke out publicly. Both frame this as a pattern of punishing pro-Palestinian speech.

Artists shouldn't lose their platform for taking a political stand. Finneas says exactly that. He withdrew from the tour and wrote on Instagram: "Artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed."

This is about a power imbalance, not politics. Aaron Rowe, the Irish singer-songwriter, said he couldn't "stand by and allow billionaires to use their position of power to silence the rightful voices of those who speak up," pointing to Irish history with "genocide, forced famine and violent occupation."

The whole campaign against Macklemore is shameful. That's how MUNA put it. The duo posted: "Everyone involved in the move to silence free speech about a genocide is utterly pathetic. Solidarity with Macklemore." None of the four singled out Pink by name, but their target is the broader pressure campaign her post fed into.

Mainstream stars backed him publicly too. Model Gigi Hadid posted: "Macklemore we stand with you. Free Palestine."

Where This Lands

UNICEF hasn't said a word about the petition or Pink's status, and it still lists her as an ambassador. The petition's backers say a children's charity can't have an ambassador who picked a side in the war killing those children. Pink says she was defending Jewish fans who felt targeted at their own concert, not weighing in on the war. The artists speaking out for Macklemore say the real story is a pattern of punishing pro-Palestinian speech, whether they quit the tour or just posted support. They say Pink's post fed that pressure campaign, even though none of them named her directly.
